Dunbar Race Engineering Ltd is driven by a passion for racing and a determination to deliver excellent engineering.
The company has been formed by Duncan Dunbar who grew up around his father’s historic racing motorcycles as a child, before riding himself. He’s ridden and raced many wonderful machines from ridgid framed Velocettes to rotary engined Norton’s.
Duncan’s professional career began in 2004 in British Superbikes. Responsibilities included mechanic, data acquisition and setup, then by 2006 working as crew chief. This was followed by a stint with Ilmor in MotoGP as a race engineer. One British Superbike race win at a Donington Park with Scott Smart in 2006 was among the highlights.
In 2007 Duncan moved to Mercedes Formula 1, joining their engine program as a mechanical design engineer. The following eight and half years were spent working on internal combustion engine design and performance development. During which time Duncan was promoted to an engineering team leader responsible for a team of up to eight designers and leading a development engine program. During this tenure he contributed to the winning team, which delivered four Formula 1 world championships;
L. Hamilton 2008, J. Button 2009, L. Hamilton 2014 & 2015.
With the skills gained from this experience, and a professional methodical approach, Duncan ensures Dunbar Race Engineering Ltd delivers race products and engineering services to the highest standards.
